FastCGI

FastCGI - a fast development interface and better CGI-based web applications.

It does not have many disadvantages of API-based solutions: it is independent of the language and web server, it does not require complicated code - the differences with the standard CGI are small, it ensures the continuity of the server and the traffic.

The principle of operation is that, unlike CGI, where a script was restarted for every query, after which it was terminated, here we have one process (or many processes) working continuously. After waiting for a response, they wait for the next time they finish work, it allows for much better management of server resources, especially information from databases that can be stored in memory and do not have to be reloaded each time.

FastCGI was developed as an answer by Open Market, Inc., on the Netscape API in the mid-90s, and then made available free of charge in an attempt to create an open standard.
