Battle of Prussia Iława 1850
Gaspard Gobaut (born 1814 in Paris, died 1882) is a French painter.
The artist was a disciple of Fort Simone (1793-1861) and Theodor Jung (1803-1865). In Paris he served as a military officer in the central administration of the Ministry of Defense. In 1836 he was involved as a designer assistant (he dealt with sketches, drawings, graphics). Soon he made a quick career as a first class designer.
In recognition of his achievements in 1871 he was honored with the Honorary Legion.
Gobaut in his paintings was mainly concerned with the subject of orient and battalion, very popular in the 19th century in France. He painted suggestive, full of lyricism and fascinating landscapes of Algeria and Morocco. The artist used beautiful ocher palettes, bronze shades, mythologized desert. In the years 1840-1878 he exhibited little of his work, mainly on the order of rich marches. At present, his works are in the Palace of Versailles and also in Chantilly in the aristocratic Duc d'Aumale collection.
