  • Lewiatan in synagogue painting - one of many motifs of the painter's synagogue, symbolizing the coming of the Messianic Age.

    In Poland, popularly used since the 17th century, mainly in wooden synagogues. The oldest variant is the Lewiatan city view - the image of the Messianic Jerusalem. This type of performance has not survived. The most popular variant is a long fish curled in a circle, shown against the background of water.
