The Jewish-British-Arab conflict

The largest number of volunteers came from the United States and Great Britain. They were mostly military veterans of World War II. They had a lot of combat experience, and they were often military pilots.

During the civil war in Palestine Mandate in 1948, 1,500 people took part. Volunteers from the United States, 500 from South Africa, 1,000. from the UK and 30 from Finland.

During the War of Independence 1948-1949 took 3 thousand. Volunteers from 43 countries around the world. 119 of them were killed during the war.

After the war ended in 1949, most volunteers returned to their countries, but some remained in Israel. A group of veterans of Machal formed the village of Kefar Danijjel near the town of Lod. Bibliography
