Moscow History Museum (Moscow: Музей истории Москвы) - one of the oldest museums in Moscow.
His collection was created as a result of the initiative of Russian scholars in 1896. The city's administration has donated a large collection of exhibits.
In the twentieth century, the museum changed its name several times and its location. First in 1921, the museum was named the Moscow City Museum and was located in the Sucharewa Tower (Сухарева башня). In 1940 was named the Museum of History and Reconstruction of Moscow. In 1987 the museum received its current name.
The Museum has received over one million exhibits of life in the city throughout its history, from the ancient origins of Moscow to this day. The collection includes archaeological finds, ancient tools, jewelery, bronze and stone objects, from the earliest beginnings of Moscow. There is a collection of maps and sketches that show how the city grew from year to year. The large number of photographs reproduces the most important occasions, celebrations and events in Moscow from the mid-nineteenth century to today.
The museum holds original costumes, accessories, furniture and other everyday items made by both talented Russians and European masters.
