Wilhelm d'Arques

Wilhelm of Talou, earl d'Arques, youngest son of Prince Normandy, Richard II of Good and Poppy. Mauger's younger brother, Archbishop Rouen, younger half-brother of Normandy princes Richard III and Robert I. Conductor Wilhelm Conqueror.

When Wilhelm II became Count Duke of Normandy in 1035, d'Arques and his brother were among his opponents. They had so much influence that they received high dignity in the duchy. Mauger was Archbishop of Rouen, and Wilhelm Earl of Arques. In the later years, however, the brothers remained on the sidelines of subsequent rebellions against the prince and after their defeat at the Battle of Val-ès-Dunes they retained their positions.

However, with the increasing power of nephew Wilhelm d'Arques, the rebellion in 1052 caused the rebellion, with the help of King Henry I of France. Prince William quickly besieged his uncle's castle in Arques and defeated the king of France. Arques was soon capitulated, and Count Wilhelm went into exile to the court of Count Eustace II of Boulogne. He died there.

Wilhelm d'Arques was married to the unknown daughter of Hugh II, Count de Ponthieu, and Berty, countess d'Aumale, daughter of Count Guerinfroia. Nothing is known about his possible offspring. Bibliography
