Consolidated democracy - the form of a mature political system in the sense that democratic mechanisms have appeared in them a relatively long and durable time trial. The maturity of consolidated democracies also means that they have proven themselves over a longer period of time. With the exception of Spain, Portugal and Greece, none of the countries mentioned since World War II did not have a democratic breakdown. In this sense, consolidated democracies can also be defined as stabilized systems, despite the distortions that have arisen in their surroundings.

At the turn of the 1980s and 1990s, all states of Western Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Israel were included in the list of advanced democracies. What connects all these states is the fact that unrestrained political rivalry has not led - at least for a quarter of a century - to the threat of birth or return of authoritarianism. The common features of consolidated democracy do not mean that there is no difference, often deep, in the institutional sphere as well as in the political practice. We can distinguish here among others; kingdoms, principals, empires, and republics. They are federations or united states. The form of government takes the form of parliamentaryism, presidentialism, or semipresidentism. An essential feature of consolidated democracy is its flexibility. Such democracy can be described as a system capable of being called "democratic reproduction", ie to overcome crisis situations not only on the basis of democratic rules of the game, but in a way that increases their confidence.

Consolidated democracies function in quite a similar economic, social and cultural environment. The economy of countries defined as consolidated also has a high level of competitiveness on the international market. Economic growth is accompanied by far-reaching transformations in the social structure in which traditional class conflicts lose meaning. Criteria
