External filter

External filter - one of the most important elements of an aquarium. This filter is placed outside the aquarium. Only hoses or tubes are added to the filter, so there is no space in the aquarium. The plastic housing is a motor, thanks to which the water is sucked into the filter and out to the aquarium. There is also a place for filter cartridges that can perform different roles, eg mechanical filtration:

area:

Water softener: absorption of anionic and ammonium ions

nitrate removal

killing harmful bacteria, reducing pH, kH: stabilization

Removing harmful compounds:

The filter performs many functions, such as clearing water from floating suspensions, boosting the bacteria, forcing water to circulate in the aquarium. Often it also acts as an aerator and even a temperature control system and continuous water change, but these are already very expensive models. Division

External filters are divided into overflows (cascades) and canisters (buckets). Cascades are cheaper, but less convenient to install - they must be hung through the aquarium glass, so you have to rework the lid, which after self-manipulation loses the warranty. Bucket filters are the most advanced - they operate under pressure, they can be placed under an aquarium in a cabinet, and only snakes come into the aquarium. They also have the largest filter surface and are the most convenient to maintain - no need to look into the aquarium and soak in it. Most external filters can have several independent filter layers.
