Guy of Burgundy


Guy de Bourgogne (May 20, 1272) - French Catholic priest. Curriculum vitae

In his youth he entered the Cistercian Order and in 1257 was elected the twenty-fourth Abbot of Citeaux. In 1262 Pope Urban IV appointed him Cardinal to the Presbyterian S. Lorenzo in Lucina. In the years 1266-1268 he was a papal legate in Germany, Scandinavia and Poland. In June 1267 he visited Cracow, and in February 1268 he chaired the Synod in Wrocław. During the papal election of 1268-71 he was one of the members of the 6-member Electoral Commission, which elected Pope Gregory X. He most likely died in Rome, although some sources say he died in Lyon. Bibliography
