Jan Janský


Jan Janský in 1902 of the year Janský'ego Medal Jan Jansky (born April 3, 1873 in Černošice) is a Czech neurologist and psychiatrist, pioneer of serology. It is attributed to the first division of blood groups into four types based on the ABO group system. He was an advocate of blood donation. Today honorary blood donors in the Czech Republic are rewarded with the medal of his name (Janského plaketa).

Janský studied medicine at the Charles University in Prague. From 1899 he worked in the Prague psychiatric clinic. In 1914 he became a professor. During World War I he served two years as a doctor on the front, but after a heart attack he became incapable of service. After the war he worked as a psychiatrist in a military hospital (Vojenská nemocnice). He died of coronary heart disease. Authoritative control (person):
