Ludwik Lille
Ludwik Lille (born 1897 in Podwiejska near Zbrucz, died in 1957 in Paris) - Polish graphic artist and painter. In the interwar period the representative of the surrealist movement, and in postwar metaphorical art.
He studied medicine in Lviv.
In the years 1918-19 he established contacts with the group of expressionists focused around the magazine "Zdrój" from Poznań and cooperated with the magazine "Formiści" from Cracow. In 1920 he presented his works in Lviv, Cracow and Warsaw. In 1921 he went to Berlin. He studied in the Weimar Bauhaus and returned to Lvov. He was involved in illustrations, scenography, decorative designs for experimental Lviv theaters. Since 1930 he belonged to the association "Artes" as well as to the Union of Artists. Lille has been active in popularizing and criticizing the arts, including radio broadcasts on the subject. He worked on scenography for Lviv Ballet, the Vilnius Corps and the Lviv Opera. In 1934 he organized a museum of the Jewish Religious Community in Lviv and became its director.
In 1937 he went to Paris permanently. During the occupation he acted in the structures of the Polish resistance movement in France. After the war, he served as president of the Polish Artists Association and was a member of the Société des Peintres-Graveurs. Authoritative control (person):
