Resolution of the Sejm
Resolution of the Sejm - a resolution of the Sejm and a decision of the President of the Republic of Poland, or an independent decision of the President of the Republic of Poland (permitted by the 1992 Little Constitution Act), which expires the mandates of deputies and senators before the constitutional term of office.
As soon as the provisions of the President of the Republic come into force, the Sejm and the Senate are deprived of the powers of legislative and control activities until new elections are held.
At the time when the Sejm and the Senate were dissolved, it was impossible to hold meetings of chambers, pass resolutions and statutes, as well as the activities of the Sejm and Senate committees. Only the Marshal of the Sejm and the Speaker of the Senate were allowed to do so.
The 1997 Constitution of the Sejm and the President were deprived of the powers to dissolve. Since then there is only the possibility of shortening the term of the Sejm.
After 1989 the Sejm and the Senate were dissolved from 31 May to 19 September 1993.
