The filamentous pleura, made up of cylindrical cells (10 to 50 μm in diameter), contains two starch chloroplasts with one pyrethroid each. Sexual reproduction occurs through conjugation, usually ladylike, sometimes also lateral, mostly anisogamous. Zygospora surrounded by a triple membrane.
