Radio silence
Radio silence - a situation in which all stationary and mobile radio transmitters in a given area stop transmitting.
In general, it is used in the military and is intended to conceal the position or intent of one's own forces, such as the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, but also to facilitate the operation of radio telescopes or at sea to allow weak SOS signals to be heard.
Deprecated after the GMDSS: (For radio silence, three minutes after each full hour and every half hour thereafter (no correspondence is allowed except for emergency communications, urgent communications and security communications).
The first minute of radio silence is for listening only to distress communications. The second minute of radio silence is for urgent messages and the third for safety (warning). Bibliography
