Ruska Gate

Brama Ruska - one of the medieval city gates of Wroclaw, situated in the line of the fortification over the role of the city moat Czarna Oława. It consisted of a tower built on a square and a forecourt, topped with battlements. Through the gate, there was a street - Ruska street - from the Market in the west.

Built in the 13th century, it was an important element of the fortifications alongside the old Mikolajska Gate. Both of these gates lost their military importance after the construction of the new Mikolajska Gate (in the 14th century) in the line of external fortifications. The gate of the Ruthenian Gate was dismantled in the 18th century, and the remaining elements of the fortifications of the gate - after 1807, due to the French order of liquidation of urban fortifications.
