Zofia Zamenhof

Zofia Zamenhof ok. 1906 r. Zofia Zamenhof (born 15 December 1889, died 1942 in Treblinka) is a Polish pediatrician and internist of Jewish origin, daughter of Ludwik (1859-1917) and Klara Zamenhof (1863-1924), sister of Lidia (1904-1942) and Adam (1888-1940).

During World War II she was transferred to the Warsaw ghetto where she continued her doctor's work. During the great deportation action in August 1942 she arrived at the Umschlagplatz. Although, as a physician, she had no chance to enter the wagon, she did not want to leave her little patients and went with them to the death camp in Treblinka, where she died in a gas chamber.

Its symbolic grave (commemorative plaque at Klara Zamenhof's grave) is located in the Jewish cemetery at Okopowa Street in Warsaw. Bibliography
