Piotr Mroczyk


Piotr Mroczyk (born September 29, 1947 in Poznan - December 19, 2007 in Warsaw) - Opposition activist, journalist, director of Radio Free Europe.

Piotr Mroczyk was the son of Czeslaw Mroczyk (deputy commander of Squadron 313, participant of the Battle of Britain) and Englishman, Patrycja Kershaw. After studying at the Poznań University of Economics, he worked at the Polish Radio in Warsaw. He became president of Radio and Television Solidarity in 1980. Interned for over a year. After leaving the prison in Białołęka he was forced to leave for England. The United States Communications Agency invited the United States to a series of lectures on the political situation in Eastern Europe and the influence of Pope John Paul II. After many appearances on most major television stations in the United States, he received a job in the Voice of America. He organized the Solidarity Foundation to help the interned and political prisoners. In 1989 he was offered the position of director of the Polish Radio Free Europe. It was used to solve the Polish section in 1994. He died on December 19, 2007 after a long illness at a hospital in Warsaw.

4 January 2008 buried in the Miłostowo cemetery in Poznan.
