Fyracle

Fyracle is a special version of Firebird - an open source database - which allows you to use the SQL / PL / SQL syntax implemented in Oracle servers. Its purpose is to facilitate the transfer of applications written for Oracle to the open source environment.

Fyracle consists of three elements:

Fyracle is currently able to successfully execute all of the examples included with Oracle 7. The goal is full compliance with Oracle 9.

An example of Fyracle's application is available as an open source ERP / CRM "Compiere". Using Compyere with Fyracle reduces the need for computer resources compared to Oracle and is much simpler to manage by typical Compiere users. Another example is to use Fyracle as a database by not requiring high-performance applications written in Visual Basic, Delphi or Oracle Developer / 2000 from Oracle Developer Suite. These applications are easier to distribute with Fyracle than with the latest Oracle releases.
