An environmental story

Species characteristics

The purpose of an environmental novel is to make a detailed and objective description of one specific environment, most often occupational, regional or ethnic, creating a semi-closed community distinctly different from the rest of society in terms of morality, culture, language, etc. the action of the work, which in theory should be minimized and fully inscribed into the reality of the described community. As a consequence, the postulate of the character's "typicalness" - they must represent the specific characteristics of the environment, should not stand out in complicated psychology or be personalized in any other way. In this way, the environmental novel approached the reportage novel, and, similarly to the naturalist novel, was based on long-lasting, detailed research by the author in this environment. Examples

In Poland, an environmental novel is associated primarily with the activities of the Warsaw-Lviv suburban group with H. Boguszewska and J. Kornacki, co-authors of the novel Jarek's cart with a brick from 1935. The artistic concept of the band was followed by their followers in the 1960s . Over the border, environmentalists wrote primarily naturalists, a typical example is the description of the great magazine in All for Emil Zola. Bibliography
