Rose Berger
Rose Berger, Leser (born June 20, 1889 in Cracow, died August 11, 1945) is the only officially confirmed victim of anti-Jewish riots that took place on August 11, 1945 in Cracow. She was born in Cracow as Rajzel Leser. On September 17, 1911, she married Josef Berger. After the outbreak of World War II she escaped from Cracow and hid. In August 1944 she and her daughter and granddaughter were deported to the German concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, where she received the number 89186. After liberation she returned to her hometown. On August 11, 1945, she died from a shot taken by a closed door. She was buried in a new Jewish cemetery on Miodowa Street in Cracow. Rose Berger in the archival material of the Cracow Institute of Forensic Medicine is the only death victim of the pogrom in Cracow. Anna Cichopek, author of The Pogrom of Jews in Cracow, drew attention to the fact that Rose Berger's death was the only one confirmed by all the sources of the pogrom. wiki
